Gently massage the Belt Meridian acupoint to drive away worries and reduce the “beer belly”Gently massage the Belt Meridian acupoint to drive away worries and reduce the “beer belly”

As life becomes more and more diverse, there are numerous choices of food available. Many people fail to control their intake and end up eating too much. Additionally, some people sit for long periods at work and lack exercise, resulting in an accumulation of abdominal fat. This leads to what is known as a “beer belly”. To get rid of a “beer belly”, in addition to doing regular exercise and maintaining a balanced diet, one can also use the “acupuncture meridian” as a “helper”.
Acupoint Name: The Belt Meridian is one of the eight extraordinary meridians in the human body. It wraps around the navel level like a belt, restricting the movement of numerous meridians above and below. This acupoint is the convergence point of the Belt Meridian and the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, and it is the main acupoint of the Belt Meridian. Therefore, it is named “Belt Meridian” based on its associated meridians.

Acupoint Function: The Daqi Point has the functions of warming and tonifying the lower jiao (lower abdomen) and promoting diuresis and removing turbidity. In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is divided into three jiao (or three parts): the upper jiao, middle jiao, and lower jiao. The area below the navel is considered the lower jiao. When the yang qi in the lower jiao is insufficient and the blood and qi are stagnant, water, dampness, and phlegm will accumulate internally and are difficult to be expelled from the body. Excess fat in the body is also often of this type of “water, dampness, and phlegm”. Therefore, by supplementing the yang qi in the lower jiao with the Daqi Point, it can play a role in warming and dissolving phlegm and dampness; and it can also restore the function of the Daqi Point in “controlling various meridians”, allowing the blood and qi to flow smoothly, thereby promoting fat metabolism and making it our “good partner” for getting rid of the “beer belly”.
Acupoint selection method: At the intersection point of the vertical line below the free end of the 11th rib and the horizontal line of the umbilicus (the free end of the 11th rib, approximately at the midline on the outer side of the body, at the lower edge of the rib arch).
Massage technique: Perform kneading method. Place the thumb pads of both hands on the acupoints, with the palms facing inward, and the other four fingers fixed on the back of the waist. Apply force from light to heavy with the thumbs to perform kneading, stopping when you feel a slight sense of soreness and tightness. Each session lasts for 3 to 5 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day.
