Moxibustion has many beauty benefits.

Moxibustion is a therapy that involves applying ignited mugwort directly or indirectly to the body’s meridians or affected areas. By providing a warm stimulus, it aims to unblock the meridians, boost the body’s vital energy, and eliminate pathogenic factors. Traditional Chinese medicine holds that moxibustion can warm the body, enhance qi, disperse blood stasis, and relieve swelling. The “Ben Cao Zheng Yi” states, “In ancient times, moxibustion could be used to treat almost any disease. Among all the uses of mugwort, this is the most common.” A large amount of clinical data has shown that moxibustion also has beauty and health preservation effects, such as treating facial wrinkles, freckles, acne, and chilblains.

Relieving facial wrinkles: The patient lies on their back. Fill the navel hole with salt powder. Take a 0.3-centimeter-thick fresh ginger slice and puncture several holes in it with a needle. Place the ginger slice on the navel, and place a middle-sized moxa ball (about the size of a soybean) on top and light it for moxibustion. If the local burning sensation is unbearable, raise the ginger slice slightly upwards for a moment, then lower it back for moxibustion. Repeat this process until all the moxa balls are burned out and replace them with another one. Continue until the local skin turns red. Perform this once every night, which has benefits such as strengthening the spleen and invigorating qi.
Freckles: Light the dried mugwort strips and use them to steam and apply heat to the Hegu, Quchi acupoints, and the areas with freckles on the face. The aim is to create a warm sensation in the local area and cause a redness on the skin. During the application of moxibustion, be careful not to let the ashes fall on the face and cause skin burns. Perform the moxibustion once every night or once every other night.
Yellowish-brown spots: Before going to bed, take one piece of mugwort stick, light it, and apply it for moxibustion on the local area of the yellowish-brown spots on the face. The mugwort stick should be 2 to 3 centimeters away from the skin. When the local skin turns red and you feel a warm sensation, stop the moxibustion after about 10 minutes. During the moxibustion process, be careful that the mugwort ash does not fall and cause skin burns.
Facial puffiness: Before going to bed every night, light some mugwort and sit by the bed. Gently warm the Zusanli, Tianzhu, and Zhongwan acupoints respectively, leaving each point to be warmed for about 5 minutes. When a red ring appears locally and you feel a warm and comfortable sensation, it is considered appropriate.
Acne: Light the dried mugwort strips and apply them for moxibustion on the facial acupoints such as the cheekbones, Yaoguan, Jiu Gu, and Yingxiang. Keep the distance from the acupoints at about 1 to 2 centimeters. Moxibustion each point for 2 minutes until a redness appears on the local skin as an indication of effectiveness.
